These shoes are about more than just footwear. I wore this outfit while speaking to hundreds of 8th grade girls interested in STEM careers. We posted this photo on our social media and the outpouring about the shoes is unbelievable. First, everyone loves the shoes but also they love my intention behind wearing them that day. You see, the outfit was part of my story. As a scientist and public utility CEO, I am frequently the only woman sitting around the meeting table. I used to wear clothes to blend in thinking it would make people take me more seriously. Not anymore! As I shared with the 8th grade girls, I’ve learned that you need to be authentic in yourself and to own your own voice - so wear what makes you feel powerful and brings you joy! For me, it’s these shoes. I can wear mirror pink loafers and a sparkly jacket and still be a powerful executive. Bottom line, you don’t need to blend in to earn your seat at the table. I have many pairs of OOAS shoes that I love but these shoes in particular tell the world who I am and that I love my place in it.
